Near Infrared
Spectroscopy is a widely used tool within the pharmaceutical industry, however
most NIR instruments are not designed specifically for the application of
performing a rapid identification of raw materials. The Sameness Meter Hip
Holster is a new, purpose built instrument, for rapid identification of raw
materials in the production area.

The
Sameness Meter consists of a portable NIR spectrometer with a 1 meter fibre
optic cable and probe. The NIR spectrometer has a built-in RF modem to enable
the spectrometer to be used remotely from the wall mounted PC. As such, an
operator can walk from container to container and scan samples. The spectral
data is transmitted back to a wall mounted PC where the spectrum is compared
against a library file to identify the sample. The samples chemical name, a
figure of merit and an accept/reject message is then sent back to the portable
spectrometer.
