Company Profile
NIR Technology Australia (NIRTech)
is an Australian owned company which specialises in the design and manufacture of Near
Infrared Spectrophotometers and Analysers.
The company was founded by Mr. Phillip Clancy, under the name Linear NIR
Technology Pty Ltd, in 1996. The company received an Australian government IR&D Grant
to develop a Whole Grain NIR Analyser for the wheat farmer market. This product was
released in 1998 for trials and sales began in 1999. Since then the company has been
involved in the design of several NIR analysers for the agricultural and industrial
markets.
In July 2000, the company changed ownership and was renamed NIR Technology Australia acting as a trading name of
Stadvis Pty Ltd.
Originally the company was focused on product development. Manufacture
and sales were to be handled by other companies. However for the last 18 months, the
company has been actively marketing and selling the products directly in Australia and
through distributors in North America, Italy, France, UK and Eastern Europe. It has been
important for the company to take a direct involvement in sales and marketing, especially
in Australia, so that reference sites could be established. Manufacturing has also been
performed in house, although all components are produced by external companies, leaving
the assembly and testing to internal personnel. Now that the company has achieved a
significant number of reference sites, the company is pursuing a strong and aggressive
growth strategy through a combination of regional and international distributors.
The Cropscan 2000G and 2000B are versions of the same instrument. Both
are designed to analyse protein, moisture and oil in grains and oil seeds. The Cropscan
2000G is a portable analyser designed for the farmer market. The Cropscan 2000B is a
benchtop model designed for the grain elevator market, flour mills, stock feed mills and
other grain processors. The Cropscan 2000G is the first product of the company and makes
up the bulk of the company's current revenues.

NTAS (NIR Technology Australia Software)
NTAS is a software suite developed to provide users of NIR Technology AustraliaÕs instruments the ability to develop applications using Discriminant Analysis and Partial Least Squares Regression.
Services
NIRTech is predominantly an
instrument developer. The first two years of operation were funded through a Australian
government IR&D grant and clients contracting NIRTech
to develop products. We will continue to seek industrial partners to develop new
technology and to seek assistance through the government funded R&D programs.
1.2 Market and Customers
The company's products are intended for the agriculture, food,
pharmaceutical, chemical, polymer/plastics, textiles and other industrial markets. In the
agriculture segment the major markets include wheat farmers, vineyards and wine producers,
dairy, fruit growers, grain handling and grain traders. The food segment includes flour
milling, baked goods, snack foods, dairy products and meat products. The pharmaceutical
and chemical segments include solvents, emulsions, lotions, creams, tablets and granular
products. Our customers are generally farmers or primary producers and laboratories or
process control engineers.
1.3 Industry and Competition
Our objective is to position the company as a major supplier of portable
and dedicated NIR analyser in specific niche markets. At present there is only one direct
competitor which offers a portable NIR analyser, however there are many manufacturers of
NIR Spectrophotometers and Analyser throughout the world. The market for portable NIR
Analysers is considered to be in the very early stage of market development.
